Product Data Modules

A product catalog is more than a list of names. These four modules add structured data to every product — physical facts, accessories, a master library to draw from and search by meaning — and every drawing, report and assistant tool reads it.

Physical Data

The Physical tab of every product: width, height and depth; weight; power drawn at idle, typical and maximum, and heat given off; how it mounts (front or rear rails, a zero-U bay, a shelf, freestanding); and, for a power distribution unit, sequencer or UPS, the volts, amps, phases and feed it supplies. A rack enclosure is a product too, with its rack units, depth, weight rating and load ratings.

  • Rack Layout requires it: every check a rack layout makes — fit, weight, center of gravity, power, heat — comes from this data.
  • Reports read the same fields: total weight of a system, power budget, the heat a room must remove.
  • The AI assistant sees a product’s physical data when it describes it.

Accessories

Accessories are other catalog products that belong with a product: the fixing kit that ships with a bracket, the transmitter and receiver that make up a wireless kit. When a user adds the product to a project, a dialog offers its accessories with the quantities you set; mandatory ones come along regardless, optional ones are checked by default and can be unchecked.

  • Accessories nest, so an assembly can carry sub-assemblies, and the whole tree is shown.
  • An accessory-only product never appears on its own: it exists only because of what it comes with.
  • A line item flag decides whether an accessory has its own line on the bill of materials or is absorbed into its parent.
  • Removing a product removes its accessories with it; undo brings them all back. The AI assistant adds accessories with the product too.

Stardraw Library

The Stardraw Library is Stardraw’s master catalog: thousands of products from many manufacturers, each with symbols for every drawing type and its settings filled in. With the module, the Products page gains a Stardraw Library tab.

  • Browse and search the library by manufacturer, model or kind of product, and add products one at a time or by the row. A product arrives with the symbols for the drawing types you have and the settings your drawings show.
  • Match a spreadsheet: upload an inventory and the library matches each row by GUID, model number and meaning, tells you which it found, which are candidates to choose between and which it does not have; confirm to add them all.
  • Request a product the library lacks: Stardraw adds it to the library and to your products.
  • A product you pick is yours to keep: nothing overwrites it. When the library improves a product, you choose whether and when to take its new symbols, settings or other details, product by product.
  • Picks, requests and product reads are metered by allowances that come with the subscription, so the library is drawn from, not copied.

Search the catalog by meaning rather than by exact words: “a 4K projector for a lecture theater” finds the products that fit, whatever their descriptions say. The application indexes your products, keeps the index current as they change, and answers product searches in the product browser, in the admin Query box and for the AI assistant’s search tool.
